Department of History  has its journey continued ever since the establishment of the History Department in 1953. Initially received general degree course in History along with other subjects and then upgraded to impart  Honours course in History since 1958.After the Evening Section acquired its separate entity as an independent college in 1984 , the Department continue to carry on in its full status imparting both  Honours and General Degree courses. Presently, the college is affiliated to the West Bengal State University and conducting degree courses in CBCS system in both Honours and General courses. The Department has only one sanctioned substantive post,two state affiliated contractual teachers and one guest lecturer to carry on the responsibilities of teaching and evaluation. 

In spite of limited faculty , the Department conducts a number of co- curricular activities, such as seminars , symposia and webinars of national and international standards. 

Students graduating from this Department had escalated to Masters Degree programmes under other universities. Some are self employed and others into various jobs. Alumni of the Department are in touch with the Department and acknowledge the support they received during and after their enrolment in the college. 

Faculties of the Department are interested in research and other co- curricular activities. The Department also makes collaborative initiatives along with other Departments within and outside college.
