Library sections
1. ACQUISITION SECTION
The acquisition section is responsible for Book selection, order, receiving of books and accessioning after checking according to order. After accession work of book, it is ready for next step of processing i.e., classification and cataloguing.
2 BACK VOLUME JOURNAL SECTION
After a particular duration and lack of space of periodical section back volumes of the periodicals are shifted to the Back Volume Journal Section in an organized way. Users can also access the resources of this section.
3 BAG DEPOSIT CORNER (PROPERTY COUNTER)
Library users are requested to deposit their bags / belongings here at the time of enter inside the library. Personal printed reading materials including Xerox copy are not allowed inside the library. Bag should be collected at the time of exit the library. Valuable things should not contain in the bag during library use.
4 BANKIM GALLERY
The special attraction of our Rishi Bankim Library or Central Library is Bankim Gallery which displays the collection of Photos of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and his family members, museum objects and documents (including ‘Bangadarshan’ journal) collection on and by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. Here also have a large number of book collections on and by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
5 BOOK BANK
Below Poverty Line (BPL) Card Holder, Schedule Caste (SC), Schedule Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC); and needy, deserving and economically weaker students can avail Book Bank Facility. Students are asked to contact with Librarians.
6 CAREER GUIDANCE SECTION (Resource Cell for Competitive Examinations)
In this section, there is a collection of Books on TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, CAT, MAT, UGC-NET/JRF/SLET, Banking, Insurance, PSC, Rail, CSSC (School Service), SSC, WBCS, books on General Studies, General Arithmetic, General English, Verbal & Non-verbal Reasoning, General Knowledge, Current Affairs for different all India competitive examinations. The Section has been functioning from January 2005. However considering the need and importance all out effort is being made to enrich the collection of this Section.
7 CATALOGUING SECTION
This section is act as bridge section between Acquisition and Lending section. In this section classify the procured books and catalogued according to AACR2R and OPACs (Online Public Access Catalogue) are generated using KOHA Library Management Software. After these steps of processing, books are send to book shelves and ready for issue. The Manual catalogue and Online Catalogue both are available for browsing and searching during Library Hours within the Library. The Web-OPAC will be available using IP Address for browsing and searching.
8 COLLECTIONS OF RABINDRANATH TAGORE
Rishi Bankim Library has a good and valuable collection on Rabindranath Tagore (Thakur). This collection contains important books written by Rabindranath Tagore (including “Rabindra Rachanabali”) and books on Rabindranath Tagore written by different authors. Any library user can access this valuable collection.
9 CURRENT ARRIVALS SECTION
In this section some important or valuable new books which are currently subscribed by the library are displayed for attraction of users or to notify users about current books. Books of this section are also available for access by the library users.
10 E-RESOURCE CENTRE
Our E-Resource Centre consists of 10 PCs with internet connection using WiFi network and all of them are connected with LAN. Through this E-resource Centre users can access e-resources (both subscribed and free), Web-OPAC of the library using IP address, Web-OPAC of others library throughout world, other open access resources, etc. Our Central Library is a member of N-LIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) Project of the Govt. of India which is executed by the e-ShodhSindhu consortium, INFLIBNET Centre through which the registered members of the library can access and download articles from 6,300 + E-Journals, 1,99,500+ ebooks and 6,00,000 ebooks through NDL.
11 LENDING SECTION
It is the first point of user contact in a library and almost user’s satisfaction depends on this section enormously. It is popularly known as circulation section. Library users can borrow the book as well as return the books through this section. This section also functions as an enquiry centre about library. Any type of query about library rules created by the users can try to meet by this section. Without this issuance of library clearance to users is an important activity of this section.
12 ONLINE CATALOGUE SECTION (OPAC)
OPAC is an acronym for “On-line Public Access Catalogue”. OPAC is a systematic record of the holdings of a collection. Its purpose is to enable a user of the collection to find out the physical location of the information in the collection. It is an access tool and resource guide to the collection of a library or libraries which provides bibliographic data in machine-readable form, facilitates search interactively on computer terminal by a user.
Our library is using KOHA as Library Automation Software. With the help of OPAC module of this software anyone can search document easily by different search options like Author, Title, Editor, Compiler, Translator, Illustrator, Subject, Keyword, Series, Call Number and ISBN.
13 PERIODICAL SECTION
On receipt of recommendation from different academic departments, selection of periodicals is done on priority basis and orders are placed. Indian Journals are subscribed directly from publishers and local vendors. All Journals are displayed in the Display Cabinet. The current issues of Journals and the bound volumes of back issues of Journals may be issued for consultation of Library Readers.
14 REFERENCE SECTION
The Reference section of the library contains information-dense resources. In Reference Section, there is a rich collection of reference books which includes Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Yearbooks, Bibliographies, Gazetteers, Atlases, Handbooks, Guidebooks, etc. The reference shelves are separate from the other shelves. Current awareness services are provided by this section to keep up-to-date the users in their interest or subject areas. Services by this section are:
- Bibliographies or reading lists;
- Display;
- New titles list;
- Current awareness;
- Selective Dissemination of Information;
- Interlibrary loans.
15 REPROGRAPHY SECTION
Reprography is the reproduction of graphics through mechanical or electrical means, such as photography or xerography. Our central library provides photocopying services according to its capacity to provide better services to the library users and ensure that users get better access to library resources.
17 SYLLABUS AND OLD QUESTIONS PAPERS SECTION
In this section University syllabuses on different subjects are available for access by the library users. Without this old question papers of university examinations are also available for library users.
18 TEACHERS’ STUDY ROOM
A Study cum Research room is available for Teachers with sufficient airy space and seating capacity in silence environment. Other facilities like light, fan, purified water and attached refreshment room are also available. Faculties can read the documents collected from library and can discuss with their relevant groups on topic of their interest.
19 TEXTBOOK SECTION
This section consists of textbooks on different subjects and manages textbooks in different stacks of the library subject-wise. Our library provides open access facility to the users, so users can go to bookshelves directly and choose the book of their required.
